Here are the devices / automations I’ve created for our home. I run Home Assistant in a Proxmox virtual environment to bring all of these devices together. (More details coming soon)
Smarthome
Ruihai RGBCCT Bulb Hack
I bought these smart bulbs hoping to flash them OTA with tuya-convert but their firmware version was too recent and it's been patched.
Instead, I opened it up and soldered to the board to flash over serial. Tasmota template linked.
OpenZigbee2MQTT flash on CC2531 chip
These CC2531 chips are very inexpensive (As little as $4 in pre-pandemic times) and can be flashed with custom firmware to add Zigbee support to Home Assistant for cheap. Just need a few jumper cables and a Raspberry Pi running Rasbian.
OpenSonoff Powerstrip
A 3D printed enclosure for a Sonoff wifi relay flashed with Tasmota and wired up to a standard outlet.
OpenWyze Switch USB Mod
The Wyze doorbell has a hidden USB port on the back and I decided to power it with that. The best way I could come up with to get 5v DC in the wall was to tap into the Wyze smart switch just on the other side of where the doorbell will be.
